Terms & Conditions

Below are the general terms and conditions of participation at  CdC. .   

Accommodation.

Whilst actively engaged at the CdC Project, a volunteer will be given a private bedroom and will share washroom/shower facilities ( sheets and towels  provided).  It is the volunteer's responsibility to keep his/her private space clean and tidy at all times.

Work Schedule.

Each volunteer is required  to complete a minimum 40 hours work each week.  Working hours/days are Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30  with a 1 hour lunch break.  Working hours can be  flexible by arrangement and will be planned on the basis of practicality and the nature of the work   and garden. 

General Duties 

Over and above their main duties,  volunteers are requested to assist with general duties associated with the general upkeep at CdC that we all must participate in.  These include the following:  Cleaning of common areas,  collection and storage of wood for burning., 

Food, Drink and Utilities 

Collective eating has not been adopted at CdC  due to the vast array of tastes and dietary requirements.  Therefore each volunteer is responsible for sourcing and preparation of their own meals.  Hot and cold water and electricity are provided however these are precious commodities and must be used with respect for cost and ecology.

Pay

Each volunteer will be paid a subsistence of 100 Euros per 40 hour week worked. We will also pay a travel allowance of 30 Euros for each month worked.  

Travel

Travel to Algarve will be at the volunteers' expense however we will arrange pick up from an airport, train or bus station within a 50km radius (ie Faro).  We will also pay a travel allowance of 90 Euros at the end of each 3 month period completed. There is a bus service 2d mins walk from CdC to Albufeira (14km) and Messines (5km) or you can hitch a ride to the shops when the CdC vehicle (9 seat )is going.    

Health

All volunteers should be in possession of an EU medical card in order to receive general and emergency medical assistance.  EA will pay the national insurance for each volunteer at the end of the first 12 months worked.  We would also request that all volunteers declare any health problems at the time of application and that they have injections for tetanus before arriving.

Length of Stay

The minimum length of stay to help at EA is 3 months after which and by mutual agreement the stay can be extended to suit both parties.   Two weeks notice can be given by either  wishing  to terminate a stay during the first  3 months after which 3 weeks should be given.
